Washington, DC – Today, the House passed Senate amendments to House Joint Resolution 45, the Statutory Pay-As-You-Go Act of 2009 (PAYGO).  This action sends to the President’s desk a bill requiring Congress to offset the costs of spending increases or tax cuts with savings elsewhere in the budget, while allowing a few exceptions for national emergencies.  The reinstatement of PAYGO has been a top priority for Rep. Kratovil and his colleagues in the fiscally conservative Blue Dog Coalition.

Rep. Frank Kratovil released the following statement:

“Today‘s passage of statutory PAYGO is a major victory in the fight to restore fiscal discipline and get our economy back on track.  Along with my Blue Dog Colleagues, I have been a staunch advocate for reinstating the pay-as-you-go budget law because of the role it played in creating the record surpluses of the 1990’s.  This is indeed an important step towards reinstating the fiscal discipline this country needs, but it is not the final one.   I look forward to continuing the fight to ensure additional fiscally responsible budget reforms so that we stop passing debt on to our children and start getting our fiscal house in order.”

-Rep. Frank Kratovil
