Selection Sunday has come and gone but Bob Ehrlich is still on the bubble. Is he running for Governor? Is he not running for Governor? Just this morning he told reporters that a run for U.S. Senate was still “in the mix.”
Ehrlich’s posse seems desperate to get back to the dance this year. But after losing his conference tournament in 2006, Ehrlich now appears to be pulling for an at-large bid. Unfortunately, his body of work doesn’t even qualify him for a play-in game, especially with all of his bad home losses. As governor, Ehrlich often seemed unfocused, disinterested, even lazy, like the time he missed a meeting with legislators about slots because he overslept and wasn’t “dressed appropriately.” Or the time he went to a Princeton basketball game during session.
Could Bob Ehrlich find a spot in the brackets? Could he be a Cinderella story? At least a few analysts don’t think so. On Friday, Barry Rascovar wrote, “Ehrlich run might not make sense.” Yesterday, Daniel “The Whig Man” Vovak listed his 17 reasons why Ehrlich is out for Governor. Last but not least, Joe “The Prince of Darkness” Steffen reported Saturday that even Ehrlich insiders don’t think the ruby slipper will fit.
It looks like the pundits all agree: Bob Ehrlich is not ready for the big dance. I’m sure Maryland’s Selection Committee of voters will reject his bid as well.
