Maryland Democratic Party Chair Yvette Lewis issued the following statement after The Washington Post revealed that Mitt Romney, as head of Bain Capital, was a pioneer in outsourcing American jobs to countries like China and India.

Mitt Romney’s hypocrisy is absolutely astonishing. Mr. Romney is campaigning across the country on the premise that he supports American jobs, but the fact is that he helped pioneer the practice of shipping work out of the United States. Mitt Romney and his partners made millions while American workers lost their jobs. Even as Governor, Mr. Romney not only outsourced state jobs but also vetoed legislation that would ban companies from shipping jobs overseas. Maryland and the country don’t need an outsourcer-in-chief in the White House.

President Obama and Governor O’Malley know that we need an economy built to last – that creates jobs and expands opportunity for the middle class – not one built on speculation, outsourcing and exorbitant tax cuts for the wealthy. That’s why President is fighting for tax breaks for companies that bring jobs back to America and has articulated a clear vision for how we can grow the economy. Mitt Romney is only offering the same failed policies that benefited a select few, crashed our economy and devastated the middle class.
