The Mikulski for Senate campaign announced a new ad, “Pre-existing,” will begin airing on Washington and Baltimore Metropolitan Area TV stations today.
The ad highlights how Senator Mikulski stood up to insurance companies during health care reform to end punitive practices that deny women coverage based on their gender.
Under the new health care reform law Senator Mikulski fought to pass, women will no longer be charged 40 percent more for the same health insurance as men, domestic violence will no longer be treated as a pre-existing condition and women will have access to mammograms with no additional co-pays or deductibles.
“I’m proud to say I got the law changed so simply being a woman is no longer a pre-existing condition,” Senator Mikulski said.
At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010, U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski (D-Md.) will rally with women voters in Montgomery County. The rally is a part of 1000 Women for O’Malley-Brown-Mikulski, a statewide organizing and GOTV effort led by women volunteers.
Senator Mikulski will be joined by Governor Martin O’Malley, Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown, and Montgomery County First Lady Catherine Leggett, who is the chairwoman of the event.

The Mikulski for Senate campaign today launched its second television ad of the 2010 campaign. The 30 second spot, called “Send,” began airing today. It shows Senator Mikulski is fighting for Marylanders — helping them prepare for the jobs of the future by making higher education affordable and accessible. The ad highlights how Senator Mikulski has championed the expansion of Pell Grants and tax breaks to help send kids to college, and helped reform studentloans.
“Marylanders know Senator Mikulski is fighting for them, for their education and for their piece of the American dream,” said Simone Ward, Mikulski for Senate Campaign Manager. “That’s what this ad is about.”
