Exposes Bob Ehrlich’s Support of Big Oil & Special Interests before Maryland Families

The O’Malley-Brown campaign launched the second radio ad of the campaign today on its facebook page giving supporters the first opportunity to hear the ad.  The ad, “Drill Baby, Drill” exposes Bob Ehrlich’s lobbying efforts on behalf of Big Oil as thousands of gallons of oil continue to flow into the Gulf of Mexico each day.

The ad will begin airing tomorrow on radio stations in Baltimore and the Eastern Shore as thousands of Marylanders travel to the beach this weekend.

“Like our first radio ad, ‘Drill Baby, Drill’ uses Bob Ehrlich’s own words and failed record to expose Bob Ehrlich’s support of Big Oil and his efforts to put special interests before Maryland families,” said Tom Russell, O’Malley-Brown Campaign Manager.  ”Bob Ehrlich’s lobbying firm represented Big Oil when 80,000 gallons of oil spilled in South Baltimore.  That’s a fact, and Bob Ehrlich tells us in his own words that ‘life is good, we made a lot of money,’ representing clients like Big Oil.”

In addition to his lobbying efforts, the new radio ad highlights Bob Ehrlich’s pro-Big Oil voting record as a member of Congress as our nation deals with largest environmental disaster in its history.

Bob Ehrlich voted to open parts of the Gulf of Mexico to expanded drilling while in Congress and he voted to allow oil companies to avoid paying millions in royalties for drilling rights.

Bob Ehrlich’s lobbying firm has represented CITGO, ExxonMobil, Shell Oil and the American Petroleum Institute.

The first radio ad aired by the O’Malley-Brown campaign, titled “Fantasyland,” exposed Bob Ehrlich’s record spending increases during his administration.  The Ehrlich campaign did not respond to the ad.

What Bob Ehrlich doesn’t want you to know about his relationship with Big Oil

On Tuesday, we released a new web video exposing Bob Ehrlich’s record representing oil companies, voting for offshore drilling and cheering on oil drilling saying “Drill, Baby, Drill.” As the oil spill in the Gulf Coast continues to grow, Bob Ehrlich has yet to come clean with voters about his dirty record on oil drilling.

Watch the video:

Most recently, Ehrlich spokesman Andy Barth was quoted denying that Ehrlich had ever said ‘Drill, Baby, Drill.’ According to The Baltimore Sun, “About ‘Drill, Baby, Drill,’ Barth said: “Governor Ehrlich didn’t say that and doesn’t really have anything to say about it.”

In September 2008, however, Ehrlich said on his radio show:  “Don’t forget Michael Steele, lieutenant governor: Drill, Baby, Drill…Drill, Baby, Drill!”

It sounds like Ehrlich has something to say about it. What do you think?
